Table salt is the most common type of salt. It is harvested from salt deposits in the earth, typically found underground. It is then refined and ground to remove impurities and minerals. It is sometimes treated with an agent so it doesn’t cake.

Many table salts have iodine added in order to stave off this common deficiency. Use table salt for all general cooking and baking purposes if you’re unsure which type to use.
